Yuletide peace in Turku

The Christmas Market is open each Advent weekend to Christmas

On four weekends before Christmas, the people in Turku can visit the traditional Christmas fair in the Old Great Square. Christmas spirit fills the air as the stands groan with different delicacies and Christmassy handicrafts that are hand-picked by the jury.

Turku is the birthplace of Finnish Christmas traditions - Finland´s oldest city,. Experience the genuine Christmas atmosphere in Turku from the first day of Advent to St Knut´s Day, on January 13.

The beautifully illuminated riverbanks invite you to take a stroll towards the city centre. During the festive season the Christmas City celebrates traditions. Museums of the city, including Turku Castle and Luostarinmäki Handicrafts Museum exhibit Christmas traditions of olden times. Concerts, exhibitions, events and Christmas tours are organised for children and adults alike. At the Old-Time Christmas Market at the Old Great Square stalls are filled with Christmas delicacies and handicrafts, beautifully lit by lanterns and bonfires. Take a stroll around the market, listen to Christmas carols and enjoy the performances. You will be able to see the place where Christmas peace in Finland is declared and visit the Christmas peace room in the Brinkkala Mansion
